TrekFit will get you fit for the challenges of trekking

TrekFit is a program designed by Personal Trainers with hands on experience of the conditions and physical challenges of a high altitude trek or multi-day walk.

Whether it be bushwalks close to home such as the infamous Kokoda Trail or further afield, such as Everest Base Camp, Kilimanjaro and Machu Pichu. It may even be to train for an endurance competition such as the Oxfam Trailwalker.

What does the TrekFit fitness program involve?

  • 12 weeks course and fitness assessment

    Spread over 12 weeks, first of all we will establish your fitness levels via a simple fitness assessment (this will be retested at the end of the course).

  • TrekFit training program

    You will be issued with the TrekFit Training program, an easy to follow program that can be adapted for use in a gym or at home.

  • Face-to-face group training sessions

    Your face-to-face training sessions shall be done as part of a group as we exercise in some of Sydney’s most beautiful national parks. You will utilize the equipment that you will be taking with you and getting use to both your packs and boots.

  • Attend trek presentations

    We will also be holding two presentations, one is focused on gear and equipment, this will be an opportunity to talk to some of Sydney’s leading outdoor gear specialists and get advice on the right equipment for your adventure. You will also be able to get discounts at Sydney’s leading outdoor retailers.

  • Listen and talk to trek leaders and seasoned mountaineers

    Our other seminar will be presented by Trek Leaders and seasoned mountaineers who will answer questions about what you can expect on your trip. Everything from concerns about medical issues to travelling in remote areas.

Trekking is in Joe’s blood

Joe Bonington founder of the TrekFit program is one of Sydney’s Leading personal trainers and an experienced trekker and outdoor leader. He has led and been involved in expeditions to Kilimanjaro, Kokoda Trail, and the first assent of Danga II (6200m) Nepal. Closer to home he has also led trips to the extreme outback of the Cockburn Ranges in the Kimberleys.

Joe blends his life experiences with his background in Strength and Conditioning and Wilderness Rescue. He has appeared as an outdoors and fitness expert programs such as Today Tonight, Business Breakfast and as the Wilderness Safety Officer and Trek Leader for Channel 9’s CAMP DARE series. He is also Wilderness Rescue and First Aid trained.

  • Climbing Kilimanjaro

    It was the last month before we headed off to Africa to climb Kilimanjaro, the notoriously harsh and highest free-standing mountain in the world, when we found Joe Bonington.
